I decided to write my ancestor essay about my great grandma Jane Ekins. She was born and raised in Fillmore, Utah. She was born on October 27 in the family home. She has two older brothers and on younger sister. The house she lived in when she was younger is still standing! It is a little white house at the corner of two streets. Her mother was a beautician and her father was a bee-keeper.

My great grandma grew up in Fillmore, Utah because her great, great grandfather, Hyrum Mace settled there. Her family had 30 acres of farmland where they raised grain. They also had show sheep, chickens, and cattle. All of the kids helped harvest hay or grain crops. They never bought meat or bread. She had not bought bread until after she was married! They always had a schedule. It went something like this: Monday was wash day, Tuesday was ironing day, Wednesday was shopping day, Thursday was baking day, Friday was cleaning day, Saturday was spent getting ready for Sunday, and Sunday was Church.

When my great grandma was growing up she used to play baseball on the road. They ran to the sides when a car came down the street. They also played hide-and-seek in an old barn behind the house. She also had a yellow canary that used to sit on the top of her piano. When she learned her songs really well the canary would sing along with the songs while she played the piano.

The story of how my great grandma and grandpa met is crazy! She stole his car! My great grandpa had bought a pint of ice cream and was driving to take my grandma and her sister back home. When they got to the house her sister stole the ice cream. When he ran after her my great grandma grabbed his keys, jumped into the driver's seat, and started to drive away. My great grandpa had to chase her down. Finally he stopped her. He said the only way he wouldn't put her in jail was to marry her. And so it was that they were married and raised their kids in Delta, Utah where he grew up. They had six kids, two girls and four boys. My grandma is her second child and the oldest girl.

Me and my great grandma don't have any differences except that she's older than me. We both love to do arts and crafts. She sews and she taught me how to sew. We've sown baby blankets, doll clothes, and I've even helped with one of her quilts. We both play piano too.

I loved to learn about my great grandma. It was so much fun.
