My great grandma Ruth was born on Nov 18, 1924 in French, New Mexico. She was born to Francis & Margie Myers. Her parents were from Missouri but had to move to New Mexico because her dad had Tuberculosis. New Mexico had a drier climate which helped him breathe better. But he still was sick and died from pneumonia when grandma was 11. I'm almost 11. I think this would be so hard. I can't imagine not having my dad.

After her dad died they moved to La Jara, New Mexico to a small ranch. Life was not easy. They were very poor. The had very little food and my grandma wasn't allowed to cook so she wouldn't waste food if she messed it up. She didn't learn to cook until she was married.

One interesting thing is that when she went to school it was in a covered wagon. The driver would put a hot bucket of coal in the wagon to keep them warm. This was their school bus!

Grandma Ruth was very smart. At the end of high school they took an aptitude test. She tested very high and was sent to school to learn electronics. She worked on engines of fighter planes during World War II. She was so small that she was one of the only ones that would fit into the engine area. They would hold her by her feet and lower her in so she could work. She then joined the Navy when she was 20 years old. She worked in Washington DC and decoded messages for the rest of the war.

My Grandma married my Grandpa Jack in 1945. They had 4 children. They joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1953. She had a great testimony. They served a mission at the Martin Handcart Visitors Center in Casper, Wyoming. They loved history and visiting with people so this was a fun mission for them.

Her family was everything to her! Everyone felt important when they were around her. She did from cancer at the age of 91. Se loved to exercise and went on a jog 2 weeks before she died.

I want to be like my Grandma Ruth!
