This is about my grandpa, or should I say my Great, Great-Grandpa Alton Clyde Marshall. He was born on August 8, 1922, in Minersville, Utah. He got married to my Great, Great-Grandma Virginia Morris Marshall on January 29, 1944. He died on October 27, 2006 in Beaver, Utah. As for my grandma Virginia she is still alive and healthy.
Since he died before I was born, I have not met him. I have only heard stories about him from my mom and my grandparents. One of my favorites is the time when it was the fourth of July in Beaver, Utah at the horse races. He took my mom when she was about ten. The announcer called out after the race and said, "Alton Marshall-please come to the track." He walked out onto the track having no clue what was going on. He got honored for being a horseman for so long. A newspaper reporter, Gary Webb was there, and wrote an article on grandpa. My mom thought he was pretty lucky. It was his last race and his race horse won the race! The reason why it was my grandpa's last race was because he was getting up there in age and he had Alzeimers. During a lot of the races, it was not him on the horses. As I said before he was getting older so he had a friend race for him named Vali Boni, he was one of grandpa's many jockeys. Grandpa was the trainer of the horse who had won. His name was MAINPUMPHOUSEGANG, and he was a beautiful stallion. Grandpa was so excited he started to cry. Mom said that when the photographer came to take a picture he made the whole family get in it.
My mom told me about one summer when her and her cousins stayed a week at grandpa and grandma's house. They went to horse track to feed the horses. They were getting the horses ot of the stalls to put on the walker. Grandpa decided to put bucket's on the walker instead. Non of them had a clue what he was doing.
My mom said he was very much loved and he is missed a whole bunch.
