Reid Family

I always choose my brother to write about. Not this time. I choose to pick my mom's side. I learned I have Scottish in me. We have some pretty cool people in our family. My grandma Denise Reid gave me my great grandfather’s name, Cyril Taynes Reid. The Reid name is Scottish.

My great-great-great grandpa was born on October 25, 1900. He was born in Oasis, Millard, Utah. He had twelve siblings. That's a lot of siblings. Cyril married Lavon Mary Newman on March 2, 1928, in Tooele, Utah. They had six kids; one was my great-great-grandpa Kenneth Reid.

My great-great-grandpa Kenneth was born on June 6, 1934, in Los Angeles, California. He married my great-grandma Grace. After school, he went to the Army. My mom told me he was funny and told jokes. He would give socks in a tube for Christmas, and money would be in the tube. He had loved planes and would fly small model planes. He died on June 12, 2001, in Riverside, California.
I have a lot of ancestors that were in the military. One of my ancestors was asked to design a flag, Samuel Chester Reid. He was born in 1793 and died in 1861. He was a sea captain for the British Navy. He was on the privateer ship during the war in 1812. After the war, he joined the American Revolution and helped design the American flag. I feel thankful for him. He was my great-great-great-great-great grandpa; that makes me the seventh generation.

I also have John Whirk Reid. He came over from Scotland and became a pioneer when he headed up in Kane County, Utah. By reading, I learned that he was part of the Indian War. He had ten kids and thirty-four grandchildren. He worked hard, and he was a high Priest. Wow! It has been fun and exciting learning about my heritage. I have a lot to be thankful and proud for. Happy to be part of a good history.
