Betty Marie Miller

Hi I am Ellie and I am going to introduce you to Betty Marie Miller. My Grandma was born on October 20, 1925 her parents were Robert Taylor Miller and Bess Cummings Matheson. They raised her in Parowan, Utah. She was the third child out of six and they had a very strong heritage in Parowan, Utah! She went to Parowan Elementary and Parowan High School.

After she graduated high school she went to the Cadet Nursing Program. While she was in Nursing school her local patients would always say that she could “give shots” like no one. She actually ended her nursing degree while supporting her family. She had four kids and her husband was always at work and he rarely came home early ever. She had a long and successful career in nursing. Through her determination and grit she overcame every challenge.

Grandma Betty really loved to watch Bob Ross. She became quite the watercolor artist herself. Everyone in her family has a card custom made for them and they always keep it in a special spot at their house. Take my mom for example, Betty was her grandma, which makes her my Great Grandma. My mom has hers in a drawer in her closet. She loves it so much, it always reminds her of Grandma Betty.

Everyone in my family and extended family always say that I am one of the closest replicas of Grandma Betty. Some of the characteristics that I have in common with her are her feet, her sense of humor, her mannerisms, I spill a bunch like she did, and I have her strong determination. One thing that I really like about Grandma Betty is that she did whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted, and however she wanted it. And NO rule applied to Grandma Betty. Everyone says that she was terrified of loose buttons and chewing gum. Another wonderful thing about her was that she was a redhead and because of that she had to draw on her eyebrows otherwise you could not see them. She also wore hard red lipstick, that was amazing!

Grandma Betty loved handing out 20 dollar bills. In fact, one time my mom would not take the money and Grandma ended up shoving it down her bra. Grandma got her way and my mom took the money that day. Another time Grandma Betty pulled over to the side of the road because she had run a stop sign. But she really, really had to go to the bathroom and she ended up by my other grandma's house. She knocked on the door and no one was there so she went to the backyard and went to the bathroom and surprisingly no one saw her (my other grandma was actually home!!).

These are just a few amazing, funny, and memorable things that my grandma Betty did in her 88 year life span. Now that you know a few things about her you understand why I love her so much!!
