Henry Chadburn Jr.

Today I will be talking about my 3rd great grandfather Henry Chadburn Jr. He owned the Chad Ranch in Veyo, Utah. He had 10 kids. In his obituary it said that he was born in Old Ranford, England, July 13, 1849, where he worked as an iron molder until he came to Utah in 1860. The next winter he lived in Parowan, and then moved to Iron Town in the spring. That’s where he got married to Mary Lloyd. They moved to Pine Valley and later got a small place they called “the Chad Ranch.” They lived there until 1881, then they moved to what was known as the Jeffery Place. They had 10 children while living there, 8 boys and 2 girls. Mary died October 4, 1917, and Henry passed away soon after. Some people think that the worry of his younger son joining the army may have had something to do with Henry’s death. Everyone said that Henry was a hard worker and showed affection to his friends and family.
Henry’s mother in law, Mrs. E. A. Lloyd went to Chadburn’s ranch to attend the funeral, and had him buried at Central. Others who were there were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jacobson and Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Gardner. Bishop Jeter Snow was down at the ranch three or four days before, and was with Henry when he died.
My Mom took me to the Chad Ranch one time and I got to touch the only wall left that was standing. My cousins were there and I played with them on the playground. I also went to his grave where he and Mary were buried. They died in 1917. I’m glad that he moved from England and sailed ships across the sea and walked across the land to settle in Veyo, Utah. If he didn’t do that I wouldn’t live in southern Utah either.
So in conclusion, Henry Chadburn owned the Chad Ranch in Veyo and died Nov. 17, 1917.
These are some things I learned about my 3rd great grandfather, Henry Chadburn.
