All About Arthur Barney Evans
Hi I am Ryler and let me tell you about my great grandpa Art Barney Evans. He was born on July 3, 1917 in Panguitch, Utah. He was the second oldest of four kids; his youngest brother died as a baby. His mom and dad got married at 35. His mom was a school teacher.
He was a heavy smoker and smoked 1 or more packs a day and stopped cold turkey when his first child was born. He never smoked again. He had a cattle business. There were some good years and some bad years. He had to sell all of his land except Little Creek which is up Paragonah canyon.
He was a true cowboy and really loved horses. He worked with livestock. He was a cattle ranger and had done that since he was a young boy. He always wanted to build a big cabin for him and his family and drew out a plan on a napkin. He fulfilled his dream and built a cabin with 9 bedrooms.
He was a go-getter. He always had a lot of energy and enthusiasm. He was a good student, especially in math. He was known for his personality, humor, and grit. He was always helping others, even strangers. He would invite them over for dinner and give them a place to sleep. He loved to dance with his wife and they were well known for their dancing. He was very tough! He survived being trampled by a bull and getting caught on fire as he was putting gas into his car, he had burns all over his legs.
My great grandpa Evans died before I was born, but my mom and grandma have a lot of memories of him. He loved to give everyone nicknames. He was adamant that we ate all the food that was on our plates. He grew up during the Great Depression and they didn’t have a lot of food. In 1990 he built his big dream cabin that we still enjoy as a family today. It has 9 bedrooms, 1 for each of his kids and their families. The Little Creek cabin is called ‘A Little Bit of Heaven on Earth. Thank you for learning about my grandpa with me!
