Bernhard William Dutson
submitted by: Tamara Dutson
My ancestor’s full name is Bernhard William Dutson. His nickname is Bernie, because it is short for Bernhard. He was born on September 16, 1934 & he was born in Salt Lake U.T. He is the youngest child, he had an older sister. He was born with the last name “Norling” & changed it to Dutson when he was 18 years old.
Great grandpa Bernhard has a good sense of humor. When we asked about his biggest life challenge he said, “Oh I don’t know, Ha Ha. My biggest challenge now is to survive!” It is challenging, not being able to do as much as he used to. He can’t mow the lawn, shovel snow, or do some other things he used to enjoy.
He misses fixing things. He built homes in Murray, Riverton, & Colorado City. He loved to stay busy & work with HIS HANDS. He was a problem solver & engineer. He worked for 30 years at a company that allowed him to travel across the world.
He built filtration systems & repaired equipment. He was able to visit all 50 states, (through his work) Canada, Mexico, Central & South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, China, Tiwen, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, & other places. Him & I have the same smile, & we are both short. His parents & grandparents were immigrants from Sweden. His dad’s name was Tage.
His mom’s name was Catharina (Catarina). He has 25 children, 150 grand kids, & 150 great grand kids. He has an adopted son that was born in China, his name is Qibo. When he was born, in 1934, the average male lifespan was 49 years & some odd months. He has lived 40+ years past that. He will be 90 years old this September! (2024)
He is still alive, & I have met him. My family does not live by him or near him, so we only meet him once in a while.
