The Story of David Dunn Bulloch

David Dunn Bulloch was one of my distant ancestors. His parent’s names were Isabella Dunn and James Bulloch. He was born in Barrhead, Scotland, on September 10th, 1844. He lived a very hard life working since there was no technology or machines. He was also the very first white boy to go to Coal Creek in history.

Once, when he was a little boy, he was sitting on his mother’s lap when his Aunt Mary came into the room and said, “There is such a beautiful mare and colt outside!” David rushed outside to look at the mare and colt, but apparently he got too close to them and he got kicked in the face. His family immediately called the doctor, and he said that David would not live. His father blessed him and in a few days, David was okay and able to run and play again.

Another story of him was him and his experience with the Native Americans. David and his family were having trouble with the Native Americans because they were always trying to steal their food and supplies and commit other mischief to weaken David and his family. Every time the Native Americans did this, David’s family would report these crimes to the chief because they knew that they should let the tribe handle this, not them.

Before David had turned 20, he and his brother, Robert, went out to Carson City, Nevada, to find good jobs. David did not like the weather there, so he decided to return home. He went and got his best riding horse and was off. Late in the afternoon, he came across a traveler who told him that there was a group of men selling goods and supplies way down the road and that he should catch up with them. David thought that this was a good idea and urged his horse on. Later, his horse got injured and he had to stop for the night. In the morning, his horse was happy and healthy again and eager to keep on moving, so they set off once again. Later in the day, he came across a town with some very interesting news. It appeared that in the night, one of the men that were selling goods that the traveler had told David about had taken an ax and killed the other men while they were sleeping. From that day on, David knew that the lord had given him a hand in injuring his horse and therefore saved his life.

In my opinion, a few qualities David had that I like were that he was faithful, brave, and hardworking.
